alarm

i woke up early, tense

followed that to standing

no, i need another hour of sleep

but the cool comfort was just a way to hide

from darkness

untameable wildness

not things undone

undoing

we sleep in the darkness

to have the daily reunion

if only in absence

for what’s been buried and covered over in days of our lives

a jet black sheet laid over a shadow.

as i crouched at the end of the flagstone

attempting to unclog and clear the trickling sprinkler

trying to fix-

to make right the watering

my best intention a blind unscrewing

blasting the cap for the geyser to rush

and cover me.

alarms are not ours

they wake on their own from the inside

because we’ve fallen to set
